What do you have to arrange yourself?

If you’re moving to Egypt it will be important to obtain the right visa. The right visa for you depends on the reason you’re moving to Egypt, your nationality and the duration of your stay. So where can I find more information about visas in Egypt? The best place with the most information is the official visa website for Egypt. All travellers to Egypt, other than the Nationalities listed below, require a valid Visa each time they enter Egypt. A Single Entry Visa (Ordinary Visa / Tourist Visa / Visitor’s Pass) is the most common type of Visa and can be obtained via the Egyptian Electronic Visa Application System (eVisa) or on arrival and is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. On this website you’ll find a list of countries in which people do not require a short-stay visa.

The Egyptian government made it very easy for you to find out whether you need a visa or not. The website will help you with the necessary steps:

  1. Create an account on the Egypt e-Visa Portal via the registration page.
  2. Confirm your account registration.
  3. Login to the Egypt e-Visa Portal.
  4. Select Apply Now.
  5. Select the type of Visa and read the instructions carefully.
  6. Fill in the application form.
  7. Pay using a Visa card, MasterCard or other debit cards.
  8. Await approval via email, then download and print the e-Visa from your account.
  9. Present your printed e-Visa to the immigration officer at the port of entry.

When you successfully submitted for a visa and obtained it, please consider the following requirements on arrival:

  • Passport valid for at least six months from arrival date
  • e-Visa printout
  • Travel itinerary
  • Supporting letter e.g. letter from company or invitation letter for business/family visits.
  • Hotel bookings/details about places to visit if going as a tourist.

Residence visa

If expats will be in Egypt for longer than 90 days, they will need a residence visa. This permit is also needed to work or study in the country. Once obtained, residence visas are renewable and issued with a validity of up to five years. After ten years of continuous residence in Egypt, expats are entitled to apply for citizenship.

If an expat plans to take up employment in Egypt, they will need a work permit in addition to a residence permit. The process of acquiring a work permit for Egypt can be complicated. Luckily, employers will usually take care of the bulk of the paperwork involved in applying for a work permit. Because work permit applications require the participation of the expat’s employer, it is not possible to obtain a work permit without a solid job offer from an employer in Egypt.

What rights will my visa give me in Egypt? Every visa has different rights and conditions, so it’s important to find out what you’re entitled to and what your restrictions are while living in Egypt. If you need more information, you can find it on Egypt’s government website. Also It might be worthwhile getting the help of a migration agent or lawyer to help navigate your way through the Egyptian system.

Can I become an Egyptian Citizen?

Can I become an Egyptian citizen? Yes, you can become an Egyptian citizen with all the accompanying rights through either naturalization or birth. You do not have to forfeit your original nationality, because since 2004 dual nationality is allowed.

  • Those who acquire nationality at birth include: children born anywhere who have at least one parent who is an Egyptian national by birth; or abandoned children or orphans discovered in the territory whose parents are unknown.
  • Naturalization can be granted to persons who have resided in the territory for a sufficient period of time to confirm they understand the Arabic language, customs and traditions of the society. General provisions are that applicants have good character and conduct; have no criminal convictions; have good mental and physical health; can economically be self-sufficient; and have resided in the country for ten years

For more information on how to become an Egyptian national, contact the municipality where you live. That is also where you have to submit your application. You could also take a look at Egypt’s government website.

  • Cruising the Nile: Cruising the Nile is also the most relaxing way to see the temples that stud the banks of the river on the route between Luxor and Aswan, plus sunrise and sunset over the date-palm-studded river banks, backed by sand dunes, is one of Egypt’s most tranquil vistas.
  • Aswan: Egypt’s most tranquil town is Aswan, set upon the winding curves of the Nile.
  • Abu Simbel: This is Ramses II’s great temple, adorned with colossal statuary standing guard outside, and with an interior sumptuously decorated with wall paintings.
